Criminal Justice and Gun Control

Congressman Thompson has advocated and supported gun law reform.  He supports the Brady Bill and believes that background checks and the prevention of gun sales to convicted felons reduce the occurrence of gun-related fatalities.  He also advocates child safety locks and gun buyback programs.  Congressman Thompson believes that excise taxes on firearms can divert gun sales and that the tax revenues should fund programs for juvenile delinquents - prevention and treatment.  He has also supported provisions that set penalties for dealers who violate firearms law.
