Photo, Issues and Legislation Education

As a former educator, Congressman Thompson strongly supports improvements in the nation’s school systems.  On the primary and secondary levels, Thompson has pushed for school construction (through Qualified Zone Academy Bonds) and school safety.  He believes that education paves the way for economic development and wealth-building.  As teacher pay receives more and more attention, Congressman Thompson advocates increases that will move the average annual pay of Mississippi teachers to equal and exceed the Southeastern average.  Mississippi is ranked 48 of 50 states in teacher pay.  With two of the State’s three public historically-black universities in his District, Thompson has held that parity in funding is vital to the existence of these institutions.
