Conversations About the Civil Rights Movement in Mississippi and the Nation

The Mississippi Book Festival has teamed up with some great partners to host an event next week to help kick off the opening of the new Mississippi Civil Rights Museum and the Museum of Mississippi History. On Thursday, beginning at 4:00 pm, in the House Chamber of the Old Capitol Museum, seven scholars will explore the role of the civil rights movement in Mississippi and how it affected the movement across the country. At 4:00, Randall Pinkston will moderate a discussion among four authors – Charles Cobb, Emilye Crosby, Francoise Hamlin, and Tiyi Morris – who have written insightful books about civil rights our state. At 5:30, Ralph Eubanks will host a conversation with Clayborne Carson, the director of the Martin Luther King Jr. Research & Education Institute at Stanford University.
