Education – Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF)
April 30, 2025
Public Service Loan Forgiveness was created by Congress to encourage people to pursue careers in public service. The Biden Administration gave millions of Americans hope for a future free of student loan debt. Legal challenges to Trump’s policy changes are ongoing.
- In March 2025, the U.S. Department of Education Secretary, Linda McMahon has been working to reduce the size of the workforce by 50 percent, which will affect the PSLF program.
- It is harder now for borrowers to qualify for PSLF through different affordable repayment options like the Income-Driven Repayment (IDR).
- Employees of organizations involved in activities deemed unacceptable by the Trump Administration may be disqualified from receiving Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF).
If you are having problems with your PSLF, here is what you can do:
- Get a printout of your loans by logging in to your servicer’s website.
- Stay abreast of the changes to the IDR repayment option at “Stay up-to-date on court actions affecting IDR plans.”
- Be sure to document your efforts and keep copies. To learn more, visit PSLF.
