BOLTON, MISSISSIPPI – Today, United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) announced The U. S. Department of Education has awarded $224,246 in grant funds to Jackson State University under the Minority Serving Institutional Personnel Preparation and Support Program.

The Project Hearing, Emergent Literacy, and Language Opportunities (HELLO) initiative at Jackson State University will focus on enhancing emergent literacy and language skills in young children with disabilities, particularly those with hearing loss, it's commendable for addressing a crucial need in the community. By integrating specialized training for graduate-level speech-language pathology students, it not only enriches their education but also ensures they are well-prepared to serve children with diverse needs effectively. This holistic approach, targeting eight competencies essential for serving children with disabilities, reflects a deep commitment to fostering inclusivity and providing tailored support to those who need it most. Such initiatives play a vital role in advancing both individual opportunities and societal equity.
