Congressman Bennie G. Thompson Announces $400,000 Department of Justice Grant to Coahoma Community College to Combat Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault on Campus
BOLTON, MS – Congressman Bennie G. Thompson is pleased to announce that Coahoma Community College has been awarded a $400,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Office on Violence Against Women (OVW). This grant, part of the OVW Fiscal Year 2024 Grants to Reduce Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking on Campus Program, will support the college’s ongoing efforts to address and prevent these crimes on campus. The funding will help Coahoma Community College, in collaboration with Family Crisis Services of Northwest MS and the Coahoma County Sheriff Department, develop a multidisciplinary approach to enhance victim services, provide prevention education, and improve safety on campus. The program is authorized under 34 U.S.C. § 20125 and supports institutions of higher education in establishing comprehensive efforts to prevent and respond to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. The awarded funds will assist in the development of campus policies, enhanced security measures, and training programs for faculty, staff, and students. Additionally, the project will provide support services for victims and work closely with local law enforcement to improve safety and accountability. |
