Congressman Bennie G. Thompson Announces $7.57 Million Grant to Jackson State University

Bolton, MS – Congressman Bennie G. Thompson announced today that the Department of War (DoW) has awarded $7,573,527 to Jackson State University (JSU) through the Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority-serving Institutions (HBCU/MI) Pilot Program.

The DoW HBCU/MI Program plays a significant role in enhancing the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) pipeline and increasing the research and educational capacity of HBCUs/MIs. The goals of the program are to: enhance research programs and capabilities in scientific and engineering disciplines critical to the national security functions of DoW; enhance the capacity of HBCUs/MIs to participate in DoW research programs and activities; and increase the number of graduates in STEM fields of importance to the defense mission.
