CONGRESSMAN BENNIE G. THOMPSON ANNOUNCES OVER $19 MILLION AWARDED TO MISSISSIPPI SECOND CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT to Connect People in Remote and Rural Areas to High-Speed Internet
BOLTON, MISSISSIPPI – Today, United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) announced The U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded $19,358,006 in grants and loans to connect thousands of rural residents, farmers and business owners in the MS Second Congressional District to reliable, affordable high-speed internet through the ReConnect Program, funded by President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. This program is uniquely designed to fund the most difficult high-speed internet projects in the nation, which are the most rural, remote and unserved communities.

TecInfo Communications LLC will make high-speed internet affordable by participating in the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) Affordable Connectivity Program. ReConnect Grant | Mound Bayou Telephone & Communications Inc. | $3,520,100 | This Rural Development investment will be used to deploy a fiber-to-the-premises network to provide high-speed internet. This network will benefit 435 people, six businesses and 13 farms in Bolivar County in Mississippi. Mound Bayou Telephone & Communications Inc. will make high-speed internet affordable by participating in the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) Lifeline and Affordable Connectivity Programs. This project will serve socially vulnerable communities in Bolivar County. |
