Congressman Bennie Thompson Invites Jackson Resident Who Leads the fight against COVID-19 at the Jackson Hinds Comprehensive Health Center, increasing the vaccination rate and saving lives in the African American Community as Virtual Guest to President Biden's State of the Union Address to Congress
Mississippi-02– Congressman Bennie G. Thompson is uplifting Jackson, MS Healthcare provider and advocate, Dr. Jasmin Owens Chapman, as his Hometown Hero virtual guest to President Biden's State of the Union Address to Congress on Tuesday. Dr. Jasmin Owens Chapman is the Chief Executive Officer of Jackson Hinds Comprehensive Health Center — one of the largest and oldest community health centers in the State of Mississippi, serving over 49,000 patients at multiple sites in Hinds, Warren, and Copiah counties.
The State of the Union Address will highlight the achievements and work still to be done under the leadership of President Biden. While safety protocols mean this year's in-person attendance will be limited, Congressman Thompson said inviting Dr. Chapman as his virtual guest is an important way to honor the people of the Second Congressional District and uplift their stories.
"Our country has made tremendous strides this past year thanks to the American Rescue Plan and the Infrastructure Law. So, for this year's State of the Union Address I wanted to highlight one of the millions of hardworking Americans whose perseverance in the face of the challenges presented by the pandemic fueled our nation's historic recovery. People like my guest, Dr. Jasmin Owens Chapman, are the true heroes behind America's progress over the past year, and I am proud to uplift her as my virtual guest to the State of the Union Address," said Congressman Thompson.
