Congressman Bennie Thompson Announces Federal Transportation Grants for Airport Improvements in Cleveland and Raymond, Mississippi

BOLTON, MS – Today, Congressman Bennie Thompson announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded two FY26 Airport Infrastructure Grants (AIG) totaling $176,635 to support aviation infrastructure upgrades in Mississippi’s Second Congressional District. The grants, issued through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), will enhance airport operations and help both facilities move toward long-term financial self-sufficiency.

Cleveland Municipal Airport (RNV) – Cleveland, Mississippi

Provides final-phase funding for the construction of a new 12,000-square-foot, sponsor-owned hangar designed for aircraft storage and maintenance. The hangar will assist the airport in generating additional revenue and improving its long-term sustainability. The grant covers approximately 525 square feet of construction and represents the final reimbursement for a project completed in June 2024.

John Bell Williams Airport (JVW) – Raymond, Mississippi

Supports the final construction phase of three new 3,900-square-foot, sponsor-owned box hangars used for aircraft storage. These facilities will increase the airport’s capacity to generate revenue, contributing to its self-sustaining operations. The award funds 653 square feet of construction under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act’s expanded eligibility provisions.
