Congressman Bennie Thompson Announces U. S. Department of Agriculture Awards over $17 Million to the State of Mississippi

Today, United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) announced the U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded $17,161,128 to the State of Mississippi to Strengthen School Meal Programs.

To help schools deal with supply chain challenges brought on by the pandemic, USDA is providing the state of Mississippi: $11,296,031in Supply Chain Assistance funds for schools to purchase food for their meal programs, $3,605,891 to purchase USDA Foods to distribute to schools, and $2,259,206 for cooperative agreements to purchase local foods for schools, focusing on historically underused producers.
