Congressman Bennie Thompson Announces U. S. Department of Justice Awarded $640,909 to Mississippi State and Local Agencies

(BOLTON, MS) Today, United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) announced the U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance has awarded a FY 22 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant, FY 22 Intellectual Property Enforcement Grant and FY 22 Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Grant to Mississippi State and Local Agencies.

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program allows units of local government, including tribes, to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own state and local needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice or civil proceedings.

The Intellectual Property Enforcement Program: Protecting Public Health, Safety, and the Economy from

Counterfeit Goods and Product Piracy Grant Program assists state, local, and tribal jurisdictions in preventing and reducing intellectual property (IP) theft and related crime and supports law enforcement in investigating and prosecuting IP crime and reducing violent crime associated with IP cases and investigations.

The Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Program provides states with tools needed to improve forensic science and medical examiner/coroner services, including services provided by forensic science laboratories operated by states and units of local government.
