Congressman Bennie Thompson Announces U. S. Department of Justice Awarded over $1 Million to Local Governments

(BOLTON, MS) Today, United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) announced the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention Programs has awarded $1,520,908 in FY 2022 Family Treatment Court Program Grant Funds to Madison and Sunflower Counties.

Madison County- $760,454

The County of Madison is seeking to operate a Family Intervention Drug Court due to the rising number of families affected by opioid and methamphetamine in Madison County cases. The Family Drug Intervention Court will provide Madison County the needed supervision, treatment and recovery support services that are currently non-existent.

Sunflower County- $760,454

The Ninth Chancery Court of Mississippi proposes to implement a Family Treatment Court in Sunflower County and Humphreys County, Mississippi through a partnership with the Sunflower County Board of Supervisors and the Humphreys County Board of Supervisors. The court will encourage drug free living through intense supervision, accountability, family involvement, peer support, mentorship, educational navigation; and effective treatment to reduce abuse, promote recovery, and improve the quality of life for adult participants, their families, and the community. The Family Treatment Court will be designed to provide services to parents who require treatment for a substance use disorder and who are involved with the child welfare system as a result of child abuse, neglect, or other parenting issues.
