Congressman Thompson Announced $76,912 in U. S. Department of Justice Funds

BOLTON, MISSISSIPPI – Today, United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) announced the U. S. Department of Justice has awarded $76,912 in Project Safe Neighborhood funds to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.

These funds are allocated for the Northern District of Mississippi which, consist of 37 rural counties to provide proactive law enforcement efforts, community prevention and intervention, training, and community education. The Northern District of Mississippi Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN) initiative has created multiple violent crime/narcotics task forces to attack gun crime throughout the Mississippi Delta and in all four corners of the District. The Northern District also operate two Reentry Court services: Delta Reentry Court (Greenville, MS) and Northern District's SCALE (Second Chance at Life) Program which utilizes partnerships between law enforcement, social service providers, community members and faith-based partners to combat recidivism rates among high-risk offenders.
