Congressman Thompson Announced over $33 Million awarded to Southwest Mississippi Electric Power Association
BOLTON, MISSISSIPPI – Today, United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) announced the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development has awarded $33,070,000 through the Electric Infrastructure Loan and Loan Guarantee Program to the Southwest Mississippi Electric Power Association. This Rural Development investment will be used to connect 3,397 consumers and build and improve 248 miles of line. This loan includes $3,618,360 in smart grid technologies. Southwest Mississippi Electric is headquartered in Lorman, Mississippi and serves 25,516 consumers over 4,213 miles of line in Amite, Adams, Claiborne, Hinds, Lincoln, Franklin, Wilkinson, Jefferson and Copiah counties.
