Congressman Thompson Announces $1.85 Million in Federal Grant Funding for Mississippi Department of Public Safety
BOLTON, MS – Congressman Bennie G. Thompson (MS-02) is pleased to announce that the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs (OJP) has awarded the Mississippi Department of Public Safety $1,853,862 through the 2024 Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program. The Edward Byrne Memorial JAG Program provides critical funding to support a wide range of initiatives aimed at reducing and preventing crime across the state. Through this grant, the Mississippi Department of Public Safety will enhance its efforts to improve community safety, strengthen public trust, and ensure equity and fairness within the justice system. The Office of Justice Programs (OJP) plays a key role in supporting national efforts to prevent and reduce crime. With a broad mission that includes providing grants, training, technical assistance, and other essential resources, OJP strengthens the capacity of local communities and states. Its program offices include the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), Bureau of Justice Statistics, National Institute of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, Office for Victims of Crime, and the SMART Office.
