Congressman Thompson Announces FEMA’S HAZARD MITIGATION GRANT OPEN
(Washington, D.C.) -- Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson announced the application period for the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Hazard Mitigation Grants has opened. For Fiscal Year 2022, there is $2.3 billion available for the Building Resilient Infrastructure Communities program and $800 million available for Flood Mitigation Assistance program. These funds can be used to combat the effects of climate change and build stronger communities. Interested applicants should apply by December 1, 2022 to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency. "With climate change, we are seeing more frequent, intense, and destructive natural disasters. Communities that lack proper infrastructure will be at significant risk unless we invest in better mitigation strategies. I thank the Biden Administration for prioritizing making critical investments in communities. This historic mitigation funding will help communities in Mississippi build stronger and more resilient infrastructure that can protect them from the impacts of disasters such as flooding, hurricanes, and tornadoes. Just recently, we saw how flooding can devastate our community and infrastructure with the Jackson Water Crisis. I urge every community to take advantage of this critical funding.” |
