CONGRESSMAN THOMPSON ANNOUNCES FEMA’s HAZARD MITIGATION GRANT IS OPEN

November 3, 2023

(Bolton, Mississippi) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson announced the application period for FEMA's FY 2023 Hazard Mitigation Assistance Grants is now open. FEMA published the Notices of Funding Opportunity for the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) and Flood Mitigation Assistance Hazard Mitigation grants. For fiscal year 2023, there is $1 billion available for the BRIC grants and $800 million is available for Flood Mitigation Assistance grants. These funds can be used to combat the effects of climate change and build stronger communities. Interested applicants should reach out by November 15, 2023, and the deadline to submit application is January 8, 2024, to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency. The funding for these two programs has been greatly increased thanks to President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and this year, the landmark legislation will contribute over $1 billion to these critical climate infrastructure and resilience programs.

“Climate change is causing our communities to experience increasingly frequent and severe natural disasters. Investing in and prioritizing hazard mitigation is one way to ensure our communities are protected from the impacts of natural disasters. For this reason, I am pleased that FEMA recently announced that they are providing nearly $2 billion in grant funding to help communities combat climate change. I am grateful to the Biden Administration for their continuous support to communities, like those in Mississippi, who are frequently trying to combat the impacts of disasters such as flooding, hurricanes, and tornadoes. I encourage every community in Mississippi to take advantage of this opportunity,” said Congressman Bennie Thompson.
