Congressman Thompson Announces USDA Grant of $238,843 to Mississippi Department of Human Services for SNAP Fraud Prevention
Washington, D.C. — Congressman Bennie G. Thompson is pleased to announce that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service has awarded nearly $5 million in grants to ten state agencies, including $238,843 to the Mississippi Department of Human Services, to enhance fraud prevention efforts within the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The grant will help Mississippi implement a proactive, data-driven approach to prevent, detect, and deter fraud, allowing for quicker identification and prioritization of potential cases for evaluation. The funds will be used to support projects that align with the principles of the SNAP Fraud Framework, a comprehensive toolkit designed to strengthen fraud prevention and investigative techniques in state SNAP programs. Each state will apply the funds to new fraud prevention initiatives that fall within one or more of the seven components of the SNAP Fraud Framework, which include organizational management, performance measurement, recipient integrity education, fraud detection, investigations, analytics, and learning development. |
