CONGRESSMAN THOMPSON TO HOST SECRETARY OF HUD, MARCIA FUDGE
(Bolton, MS) – Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) and the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development will visit with a residential homeowner, presidents of Historical Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), leaders of the faith based community and members of financial institutions on Wednesday, August 17, 2022. The visit will give Secretary Fudge an opportunity to see, first-hand, housing needs in the Mississippi Second Congressional District. The first stop will focus on homeownership and asset building. Congressman Thompson and Secretary Fudge will visit a residential site where Self-Help Homeownership Opportunity Program (SHOP) and HOME Investment Partnership Program (HOME) funds were utilized. The second stop will focus on the needs of HBCUs. Congressman Thompson and Secretary Fudge will host a roundtable discussion on Tougaloo Campus at 11:00 a.m. with HBCU Presidents, HUD partners and staff, covering topics related to HBCUs including homeownership and asset building. The third stop will focus on Community Development Financial Institutions Program (CDFI). Here the Congressman and Secretary will participate in a listening session with CDFIs on how HUD can support down payment assistance programs and CDFI participation in home lending. The listening session will be at 1:45p.m. at the Smith Robertson Civil Rights Museum, 528 Bloom St, Jackson, MS. The final stop will be at Cade Chapel M.B. Church where Congressman Thompson and Secretary Fudge will engage faith leaders, HUD partners and staff, providing information on community development, affordable housing programs, and homeownership. |
