For ImmediateRelease Contact : Ty James June 3, 2020 (202) 225-5876 Congressman Thompson's Statement on Officers Charged in George Floyd's Death Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Thompson released the following statement regarding the Minneapolis, MN police officers charged for their involvement in George Floyd's murder: "I commend the Minnesota Attorney General for charging all four officers involved in the killing of Mr. George Floyd," said Thompson. "The unjust murder of George Floyd has sparked a movement across the globe. Our country is now witnessing the expected result of African-Americans being brutalized and dehumanized for centuries. Police have been accused of torturing and murdering African-Americans for a number of years usually with no consequence. Although we are pleased that the officers have been charged we will only be satisfied when justice is served. Civil Rights Activist Ella Baker once said, ‘Until the killing of black men, black mothers' sons, becomes as important to the rest of the country as the killing of a white mother's son, we who believe in freedom cannot rest until this happens.' Now, it is up to the people of goodwill to make America a better place for all people." | |
