CORONAVIRUS/COVID-19 Response to Recovery

Congress had made an additional $100 million in funding for Firefighters.  The funding comes under the CARES Act (Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security Act) through FEMA Assistance for Firefighters Grant Program (AFGP).  FEMA will begin accepting applications on Tuesday/April 28, 2020.  The deadline for applications is May 15, 2020.

The funds are available directly to eligible fire departments, nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations and state fire academies to purchase personal protective equipment and supplies.  See the attached FEMA Advisory COVID-19 AFG Supplemental Final (FEMA FACT SHEET) and FEMA AFG COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic Advisory to learn about eligibility, who can apply, and more.  FEMA is allowing applicants through their FEMA website to access the Notice of Funding Opportunity and the technical assistance tool before April 28th so they can start working on their application.  To access the AFGP Grant Program online application go to AFGP-FEMA Grants Outcomes (GO) application portal.

For questions or help, email the AFG Grants Help Desk at firegrants@fema.dhs.gov or call (866) 274-0960 (8:00 am to 5:00 pm EDT, Monday - Friday).

As news develops, I will continue to share it with you through my Congressional Website, Twitter, and Facebook.  However, if you have any questions, call Dr. Timla G. Washington, PhD, my Human Capital Developer for the Mississippi Second Congressional District by email twashington@mail.house.gov or by phone at (662) 335-9003.
