Federal and State Resources

COVID-19 is a rapidly moving respiratory virus that is affecting the entire United States. As things develop about the Coronavirus/COVID-19 outbreak information will be shared. The following information is being shared to keep you informed about resources that maybe helpful to you. You may also get updated information through my Congressional Website, Twitter, and Facebook. Businesses

  • SBA and MEMA Disaster Assistance for Businesses is available for anyone in private business. They can now apply for an Economic Injury Disaster Loan through SBA. That information is at Governor Reeves Requests SBA Economic Disaster Declaration for COVID-19. Local Emergency Managers also have those applications. The applications need to be turned in to MEMA before April 1, 2020. That paperwork is to be submitted to MEMA State Coordinating Officer, Todd DeMuth at tdemuth@mema.ms.gov.

Housing

Utility Services Cutoffs

  • Governor Tate Reeves signed an order on March 14, 2020 declaring a State of Emergency which impacts utility services. And the MS Public Service Commission issued a March 15, 2020 News Release suspending disconnection on certain utility services in response to COVID-19. Input from the MS Attorney General Office was garnered for this decision. And the press release was sent to the MS Municipal League to be disseminated to municipalities. See Attachment.

  • To get the latest guidelines issued on the Coronavirus in additions to the number of cases confirmed daily go to MS State Department of Health website https://msdh.ms.gov/.
  • The State Health Officer is Dr. Thomas Dobbs.
  • MS State Department of Health COVID-19 Hotline Number is 1-877-978-6453 (Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm).

Healthcare

  • The Mississippi Division of Medicaid (DOM) has expanded its coverage of telehealth services across the state in alignment with Governor Tate Reeves' recommendations on utilizing telemedicine as an approach to care for patients in an effort curtail/limit unnecessary travel to clinics to reduce possible exposure to COVID-19. If it is not a life-threatening situation, tell citizens to call their healthcare provider or Medicaid to find out if telehealth is an option specific to them. Education

  • To get up to date information on school district's plan to continue educating and feeding students contact the School District Superintendent Office in your county.
  • To get up to date information on school closures contact the School District Superintendent Office or the MS Department of Education at www.mdek12.org.
  • The MS Department of Education maintains an updated "Listing of Schools Serving Meals During Coronavirus Closures." To see the list, go to https://www.mdek12.org/OCN.
  • The MS Department of Education provides COVID-19 Updates, Family Guides for Student Success, and COVID-19/Coronavirus Guidance for School Districts *Also has resources for teachers looking for off-site learning opportunities on their website at https://www.mdek12.org/.
