(Bolton, Mississippi) – Today, Rep. Bennie Thompson announced the state of Mississippi will receive $3,518,266 through FEMA FY 2021 preparedness grants allocations. Funds will be allotted to the State Homeland Security Grant Program's Non-Profit Security Grant Program (NSGP-S). This is a significant increase in funding and awardees, as last fiscal year Mississippi received $1,050,215.

Rep. Thompson has been an advocate for NSGP funding. In response to an increase in violence and threats of violence against nonprofit institutions, Rep. Thompson introduced the Securing American Nonprofit Organizations Against Terrorism Act of 2019, which formally authorized the NSGP, increased NSGP funding, and made funds available to nonprofit organizations located both inside and outside of urban areas. In 2020, Rep. Thompson's legislation became law.
