FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Open
(Bolton, Mississippi) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson announced the application period for FEMA's Hazard Mitigation Grants has opened. In early August, FEMA published the Notices of Funding Opportunity for the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) and Flood Mitigation Assistance hazard mitigation grants. For fiscal year 2021, there is $1 billion is available for the BRIC grants and $160 million is available for Flood Mitigation Assistance grants. These funds can be used to combat the effects of climate change and build stronger communities. Interested applicants should apply by December 1, 2021to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency. "Due to climate change, natural disasters are becoming more frequent and are wreaking havoc on our communities. Investing in mitigation projects is one of the key tools for communities," said Congressman Thompson. "I applaud the Biden Administration for increasing funds for FEMA's hazard mitigation. This funding will help our communities in Mississippi protect themselves from the impacts of disasters such as flooding, hurricanes, and tornadoes.
