Former January 6 Committee Chairman Thompson Statement on the Anniversary of the January 6 Attack on the Capitol

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), former Chairman of the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol, released the following statement on the anniversary of the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol: “Today, on the 4th Anniversary of the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol, we remember violence of that day, we remember the lives lost, and we remember the heroism of law enforcement who responded to protect the citadel of our democracy. Today, we also recommit our charge to preserve our democracy for generations to come. It must be protected from those who wish to subvert it. “Donald Trump was responsible for the violence on January 6, 2021 and nothing – no lie, no conspiracy theory, no pardon, and no threat of vengeful prosecution – will rewrite history or wipe away his responsibility for that day. “The truth must always be our North Star.” |
