Former January 6 Committee Chairman Thompson Statement on Conviction of Peter Navarro for Contempt of Congress

September 7, 2023

BOLTON, MS-Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), former Chairman of the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol, released the following statement on the conviction of Peter Navarro for contempt of Congress after he refused to comply with a lawful subpoena from the Select Committee:

“More than 500 days ago, the House held Peter Navarro in contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with a valid subpoena issued by the January 6th Select Committee, and today, a jury of his peers in Federal court has held him accountable for his failure. Mr. Navarro thought he was above the law and stonewalled the Select Committee despite his legal and moral duty to testify about his role in the former President’s conspiracy to overturn the 2020 Presidential election. I applaud today’s verdict and thank the Department of Justice for bringing this important case to trial. Justice is catching up with those who sought to prevent the peaceful transfer of power on January 6, 2021.”
