Press Release: Congressman Bennie G. Thompson Announces Academy Nomination for Second Congressional District

BOLTON, MS – Today, United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) announces the Military Academy nominee for the Second Congressional District. 

Ryan Wei has been nominated by Bennie G. Thompson, United States Congressman for Mississippi’s 2^nd District. A native of Grenada, Mississippi, Ryan attends Mississippi School for Math and Science (MSMS) in Columbus, MS, where he excels academically and athletically in robotics, swimming and football. With an impressive ACT score of 34, he is excited for the opportunity to attend United States Naval Academy. 

Ryan maintained an outstanding 4.0 GPA at Kirk Academy and continues to excel academically at MSMS, where he also holds an exceptional GPA and ranks in the top five percent of his class. A dedicated scholar, he is an active member of the National Honor Society and the National Society of High School Scholars and has earned numerous additional honors recognizing his academic achievement and commitment to excellence. 

Ryan’s passion for leadership extends far beyond the classroom. He understands that true teamwork and service are developed through experience rather than textbooks. Through perseverance, sacrifice, and a willingness to step forward when needed, he has cultivated a strong foundation for success. As president of the Interact Club, Ryan has seen firsthand how meaningful service can create a lasting impact on both team members and the broader community. 

A resilient and well-rounded student, Ryan exemplifies the core values of service, discipline, teamwork, and leadership. These principles have shaped his character and prepared him for his anticipated future at the United States Naval Academy. He is deeply committed to serving others, leading with integrity, and making a lasting and meaningful contribution to his community and to the nation. Ryan is the son of Suzhen Ruan and resides in Grenada, Mississippi.

Ryan received a “Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition” in recognition of his nomination to the United States Navy Academy and for outstanding academic achievement.
