(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Today, United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) announced that 22 nonprofit organizations in the state of Mississippi will receive $2.7 million through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for Fiscal Year 2023 under the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP). NSGP provides funding for physical security enhancements and other security-related activities for eligible nonprofit organizations, which includes houses of worship, that are at high risk of a terrorist attack. Congressman Thompson has long been a champion for the NSGP. In 2019, Congress enacted the Securing American Nonprofit Organizations Against Terrorism Act (P.L. No: 116-108), sponsored by Congressman Thompson, which formally authorized the NSGP, increased NSGP funding, and made funds available to nonprofit organizations located both inside and outside urban areas. In December 2022, Congress enacted the Nonprofit Security Grant Program Improvement Act of 2022 (P.L. No: 117-263), sponsored by Congressman Thompson, which increased NSGP’s funding, impact, and effectiveness. "The Nonprofit Security Grant Program is integral to addressing threats of violence against nonprofit organizations, specifically towards houses of worship in communities across the country. We have seen an increase in terrorist threats against nonprofit organizations; therefore, it is important that communities in Mississippi apply for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program. I am pleased that 22 nonprofit organizations in Mississippi will receive this critical funding this year and I encourage others to learn about how these resources can help your community.” Nonprofit Organizations in Mississippi’s 2nd District that received funding in FY 2023:
