Proposed USDA Cuts

Trump's cuts are hurting USDA employees and programs and program recipients. These are programs that service farmers, rural businesses, schools, families and children, and rural communities.

  • Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) - Contracts have been canceled or are on hold as a result of Trump's cuts, and struggling farmers who support conservation initiatives that preserve and improve natural resources like soil, water, and wildlife now face additional financial uncertainty.
  • Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) - Trump has cut $1 billion in funding for local food systems. This will also hurt farmers who grow food locally for feeding programs and food banks.
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) - Trump's cut would hurt the farmers who grow the food, manufacturers who package it, truckers who distribute it, the small businesses in our communities that sell it, and make it harder for the 139,000 people in the Second District who rely on it to buy groceries. It is an important progrm for addressing rural poverty and stimulating economic growth.
  • Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) - This program provides health meals and nutrition during the summer. SFSP has been a reliable program in rural communities. Cuts would add to food insecurity amongst children and eliminate
