Congressman Bennie G. Thompson Announces $1.06 Million in FEMA Funding for Montgomery County Road Repairs
Bolton, MS, MS — Today, Congressman Bennie Thompson announced that $1,063,438.20 in federal FEMA funding has been awarded to Montgomery County to support permanent repairs and hazard mitigation improvements to Wilkins Chapel County Road and Sayles County Road following severe storm damage under FEMA Disaster Declaration DR-4874-MS, which covers Severe Storms, Straight-Line Winds, Tornadoes, and Flooding, declared on May 21, 2025.
During the incident period, intense rainfall and storm conditions caused catastrophic damage to roadway infrastructure in Montgomery County. Stormwater runoff washed out road surfaces, damaged culverts, and filled drainage ditches with silt and debris, significantly impairing roadway safety and access.
Montgomery County will use a combination of force account labor and contracted services to restore the roads to pre-disaster conditions. Work includes:
- Restoration and repaving of damaged asphalt roadway segments
- Cleaning and regrading of roadside ditches
- Repair and replacement of culvert inlet and outlet trenches and piping
