Rep. Thompson Community Project Requests for Inclusion in FY 2023 Appropriations Legislation

I am proud to request funding for the following Community Projects – which will benefit the diverse communities in my congressional district – in the FY 2023 appropriations legislation that is currently under consideration in the House Appropriations Committee:

Community Project Fund Requests

1. Bolivar County Utilization Project

Economic Development Initiative

The funding would provide infrastructure improvements to the municipalities of Shaw, Shelby, Winstonville, Mound Bayou, Benoit, Gunnison, and Duncan. These municipalities will use the funding for water, sewage, and other infrastructure needs.

2. Delta Health Center

The funding would be used for the consolidation and expansion of current services through the construction of a new clinic facility in Greenville, MS.

3. Coahoma Community College Surveillance System Project

The funding would be used for a surveillance system will help ensure the safety of students, faculty, and facilities on campus by enhancing existing security measures, increasing the college’s ability to monitor large crowds during campus events, and providing better coordination of crisis response.

4. Johnny Russell Law Enforcement Academy

The funding would be used to construct a new residence hall facility to accommodate training officers of the college's Law Enforcement Training Academy (LETA).

5. Sunflower County Business Improvement District Project

The funding would provide infrastructure improvements to the municipalities of Sunflower, Doddsville, Ruleville, Indianola and Drew. These municipalities will use the funding for infrastructure improvements and the beautification of the communities.

6. City of Fayette Municipal Public Safety Complex

The funding would provide the citizens of Fayette, MS protection from fire incidents through rapid response to residential and business fires. This rapid response to fire incidents within the city will lower the loss of property damage to residents and businesses.

7. Union Station Transit Hub Infrastructure Project

Transit Infrastructure Grants

The funding will be used to increase accessibility to Union Station as well as for safety and security upgrades. The upgrades include repairs to vehicle ingress and egress routes, general capital improvements, lighting and camera system, security system and security enhancements, and Transit-Oriented Development planning.

8. Community Museums of African American History and Culture Project

9. Catfish Row Museum/Vicksburg Interpretive Center Project

The funding would fund for construction, furnishing, and equipping of an educational center that combines our farmers market, community garden, and a demonstration kitchen. The center inside the museum will explain the local culture and its relationship to the Mississippi River.

10. City of Rolling Fork Community Utilization Complex Project

The funding would revitalize an existing government building in the city to provide space for government and community use.

11. Emmett Till Historic Intrepid Center Project

The funding would fund the preservation of the Emmett Till Historic Intrepid Center (E.T.H.I.C.) structure and artifacts of Emmett Till and his family.

12. Municipal Regional Wastewater Project

City of Clinton

Environmental Protection Agency: State and Tribal Assistance Grants (STAG)

The funding would allow the Cities of Clinton, Raymond, and the Town of Bolton, to respond to a mounting regional wastewater crisis. The project will also provide a future opportunity to the residents in rural western Hinds County who currently have no access to a centralized wastewater system.

13. City of Coffeeville Recreational Park Project

Economic Development Initiative

The funding would afford citizens of the Town of Coffeeville, Coffeeville School District students and staff, and the surrounding community to connect with nature. The Park will give the opportunity for all users to relieve stress, become more physically fit, and improve quality of life.

14. Emmett Till Tutwiler Museum & Welcome Center

Town of Tutwiler

Economic Development Initiative

The project will help enhance the town’s ability to attract tourist and enhance economic development in all the surrounding areas. The project will also give the county a welcome center that will be beneficial to all surrounding communities.
